The Campus Theatre

The Campus Theatre first opened its doors in the spring of 1935 and was immediately hailed “one of the finest theaters in the South.” For nearly half a century, the theatre’s box office welcomed movie-goers, eager to enjoy the latest reels on Milledgeville’s silver screen. With the handsome Art Deco theatre downstairs and graceful lounges upstairs, “The Campus”—as it was known around town—remained a favorite of Georgia College students for more than a generation. Acquiring the old theatre in 2007, Georgia College meticulously restored the building to its original façade and transformed the interior to a state-of-the-art blackbox theatre and home to the university’s Department of Theatre and Dance.
